JANE EMSLIE, PRINCIPAL
Jane has successfully managed projects on insurance market surveys, employee surveys, flexible benefits, and underwriting/benefit audits. She has helped clients design benefit and cost containment strategies, including communication/education programs to implement them. She has also led industry training seminars on the design, funding, underwriting, and management of group insurance programs.
In addition to consulting to her clients, Jane is a board member of the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation. She also volunteers for Winnipeg Harvest, Jane has served on the Manitoba Regional Council of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute (CPBI) and the National Board of the CPBI. She has been the featured speaker for the Manitoba CPBI Benefit Fundamental Series, the Risk Insurance Management Society, and the Human Resources Association of Manitoba. Jane is also a member of the Honorary Council for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
JARED MICKALL, PRINCIPAL
Jared is a member of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries’ Committee for Pension Plan Financial Reporting.
Jared has been a presenter for the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute Pension Fundamentals program. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for The Osvita Foundation Inc. and is a volunteer for the Society of Actuaries in Education and Examinations.
Jared earned a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial and Management Sciences from the University of Manitoba in 2000. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
PETER HALLETT, PRINCIPAL
Peter advises pension plan sponsors, foundations, endowments and other institutional clients on setting investment policy, reviewing manager structure and asset allocation, and selecting and evaluating investment managers.
Prior to joining Mercer, Peter spent the previous five years working for an investment manager in a business development and client service role. Before that, he was based in Calgary, and was a senior investment consultant for a major pension consulting firm.
Peter is a CFA Charterholder. He graduated from the University of Guelph in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Management Economics, and he earned his MBA from York University in 1993.
LUIS RAMIREZ, PRINCIPAL
Luis helps his clients with investment selection and manager monitoring, defined contribution (DC) record keeper selection and review, asset allocation, and fiduciary/governance best practices. He also provides advice on company stock plans, investment policy statements, charter documents for retirement and savings plans, and all-in fee analysis.
Luis has more than 20 years of experience in financial services, working with both large and small companies in Canada and the United States. He has worked with some of Canada’s largest companies on DC, retirement, investment, and savings plans, and has advised many pension and investment committees.
Prior to joining Mercer, Luis was in a similar role with another large consulting firm. Before his consulting career, he was the Regional Director for Sun Life Financial’s Western Canadian Group Retirement operations and spent 14 years in the group pensions department of Fidelity Investments.
Luis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Labour Management Relations from the University of Toronto. He is a regional council member of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute and an active member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management.
