Steve Sharpe has been the Human Resource Leader for Mercer Canada since 2013. In this role, Steve works with leadership to align Mercer Canada’s people strategy to Mercer’s country and global objectives. Steve is committed to helping drive Mercer Canada’s continuing success by bringing a priority focus to colleague engagement and the deployment of a fully transformed HR model. Steve believes that Mercer must have a transparent and values-driven relationship with its colleagues as a foundation for joint success.
Steve has had a successful career as an HR leader in the consulting and financial services sectors with a specialty in better aligning HR functions to organizational objectives. After a successful career start as a commercial banker, Steve took on a program leadership role in Human Resources at CIBC followed by 10 years in HR leadership roles for Watson Wyatt. There he headed the HR functions for both Canada and the US and took on the challenge of fully updating both the talent acquisition and employee relations functions. Steve also spent almost five years working with Macquarie, an Australian Investment Bank, during its expansion into Canada – initially to create its first professional HR function in Canada and then to bring his expertise to the firm’s expansion through rapid acquisition.
Steve graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree.
